The attention of readers is offered a book by a prominent Russian historian, ethnographer and philologist E.G. Kagarova (1882–1942), which proves the existence of fetishism in the ancient Greek religion, as well as cults of plants and animals - elements of beliefs characteristic of the primitive era. The work investigates the essence of fetishism and its origin, presented the review and classification of the most important types of ancient Greek fetishes, and consider the main forms of the cult of fetishes in ancient Greece. The origin of the cult of plants is investigated, the theories of the origin of the animal cult is given. The main species of plants and animals that had religious significance for the Greeks are considered, and the forms of the cult of plants and animals in ancient Greece are described.
