“The Tale of 2 Squares” is the only Suprematic children"s book of Lisitsky during the life of the author. Another, “4 actions”, was designed later, in 1928, and promised to become a funny game to the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of letters denoting representatives of new social groups: 1 peasant +1 Red Army +1 friend = 3 comrade. Lisitsky’s experience in the children"s book is not limited by “Suprematic fairy tales”: in 1917-1919, he illustrated more than a dozen poetic collections in the Yiddish, in the manner, close to Mark Chagall.
“The fairy tale about 2 squares” was printed in 1922 in Berlin at the Scythian publishing house, which published books on philosophical and historical and literary problems: such an avant-garde book remained their first and only experience. The format of the Berlin edition is 280x230 mm, this reconstruction is in a reduced format. The circulation was executed using a high printing technique on yellowish matte paper with a density of 85-90 g/m2, the pages were stitched with a metal clip
