The monograph analyzes the phenomenon of the Soviet - state, society, culture, social structure, lifestyle, man - already becoming the past. The question of why the images of the past and among them the image of Stalin again and again pop up in the mass consciousness are considered. The author concludes that Stalin is an architect of Soviet, which evolved in the 1950s and 1960s, in the 1970s and 1980s, survived the transformation during the "dashing" of the 1990s. The presence of Soviet in the structures of society and in everyday life became the iceberg about which the plans of the political and economic reforms of the 1990s crashed, attempts to modernize, from time to time taken by the ruling circles of the country.
