The era of pre -Raphaelites is difficult to imagine without the most famous art critic of that time John Ruskin. In 1843, Ryskin published the first of five volumes of a treatise about modern painters. In "contemporary artists", John Ruskin brought many principles of art history, spoke about art as a universal language.
In 1843, the critic returned to the "contemporary artists", making a sample of essays and abstracts from the five -volume, who had managed to “formed” additions and explanations over the years. The result of this revision was the essay "rural leaves", where Ryskin speaks not only about the principles of art, the power of imagination and the role of morality, but also describes in detail the phenomena of nature, often depicted in the paintings of his contemporaries.

This publication is accompanied by an introductory article by a specialist in literature and art of Oksana Razumovskaya
