In 1930, a picture was published, a picture of "River", invented and drawn by a student of Petrov-Vodkin-Elena Safonova. Trees, houses and characters located at the very horizon, here almost did not differ the size of those that were closer to the viewer. In other words, there was no prospect, and this made a book similar to a card or children"s drawings. And the laconic gamma reminded of the mentor of Safonova. Petrov -Vodkin believed that it was necessary to work only with three colors - red, yellow and blue (or green).
In 1935, the second edition of the "River" was released, completely different. During this time, an aesthetic course changed in the USSR, experiments were no longer welcomed. For example, Daniil Harms was arrested and sent to Kursk for several months for not enough “Soviet” poems for children. Friends of the poet - Alexander Vvedensky and Elena Safonova went to the same link.
Two editions of the "rivers" - documents of two Soviet eras. Time of avant -garde search and superconsier"s "neoclassica". But to say that some version is better, it is impossible - Safonova painted both equally well.
Turning pages, as if following the flow, we will see what life was next to the rivers, we note that the second book is much more urban, factory landscapes. And this again without words will tell us how life changed in the twentieth century
