The monograph represents the results of the study of the military question
in the ideology and practice of the Russian left -and -radical movement of the second half of the XIX - early XX century. An analysis of the theoretical views of the democratic thinkers and organizers of the Russian liberation movement on the nature of the wars, the state of domestic defense, the role and place of the army in the system of relations of power and society were proposed. The formation of the programmatic provisions of revolutionary organizations on the military issue and practical steps on their implementation is shown. Various aspects of the participation of representatives of the military community in the revolutionary movement, as well as the ratio of political protest in the military environment with the anti-government struggle of the socialist parties as the phenomenon of the socio-political life of Russia in the era of bourgeois modernization, are considered.
