The book is devoted to the history of the creation and the beginning of the activities of the first scientific institution of Russia, created by the will of Peter I, - the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In a wide range of sources published in the original language and translated into Russian, diverse aspects of the activities of the highest scientific institution at the early stage of its history are considered. Documents talk about the prerequisites for the institution of the Academy of Sciences, about the basics of its activities and the first
presidents, about the “scientific squad” - the first academics, about the first scientific results, about the first steps in the training of Russian scientists. The book is richly illustrated, it contains text and graphic documents from the collection of the St. Petersburg branch of the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
On the 350th birthday of the founder of the Academy of Sciences and the 300th anniversary of her herself.
The publication is designed for historians, scientists and wide circles of readers who are interested in the history of Russian science and culture.
Work was prepared as part of the implementation of the state assignment on the topic AAAA-A19-119062690075-0 “300 sign documents for 300 years of the history of academic science: a collection of documents and materials (1724–1916) Particularly valuable documents on the history of fundamental science of the XVIII - beginning of the twentieth century: identification and introduction into scientific circulation.
Part 2 continues the topic of the formation and development of the St. Petersburg Academy in the XVIII century. And represents the works of its members in the field of accurate, natural and humanities. The results of their expeditionary and cabinet research contributed to the enlightenment of Russia, which enhanced its power is much better than guns and fortresses
