Alexey Vasilievich Grishchenko (1883-1977) - painter, art critic, art critic, author of theoretical research in the field of art and one of the most famous Ukrainian avant -gardeists. In the book, the author considered various issues related to the features of understanding the Russian icon as the phenomenon of the art of painting. Grishchenko gives a characteristic of the old Russian icon, determines the due attitude of artists of the early 20th century to the painting of ancient artists, tells about the main person in the opening and understanding of the old Russian icon, about famous icon painters, cities, churches and schools in which the art of icon painting developed. Reproduced in the original author"s spelling of the 1917 publication (M.: The author of the author, 1917. - 265 s).
