The book "Mongols and Rus"" was the result of more than a decade of Academician A.N. Nasonova (1898-1965) - source, archaeographer and the last specialist in the Russian chronicle of the Chekomatov school. Personally opening about 1000 manuscript collections, the historian put under serious doubt the authority of S.M. Soloviev and V.O. Klyuchevsky, who claimed that the influence of the Mongol yoke on the development of Rus" turned out to be quite insignificant. Nasonov came to the opposite conclusion: the inner life of the Russian principalities of the second half of the XIII - early XV century. It was directly dependent on the political situation in the Horde, the khans skillfully manipulated the princes, and popular uprisings regularly broke out in Russia in Rus".
This is the first monograph in Russian science, completely devoted to the study of the dichotomy "Rus and the Horde". A significant part of its conclusions is still adopted in modern historiography, without receiving refutation. As an appendix to this publication, Nasonov’s work unknown to the general public, which also thematically date back to the period of the Horde rule.
The book proposed continues the series of "civilization of the steppes" and will be useful to everyone who is interested in one of the most complex and conflicting eras in the history of Russia, when the initially European country has been part of Asia for a long time
