The almanac "in umbra: demonology as a semiotic system combines works dedicated to demonic and demonized enemies, as well as ambivalent spirits in the culture of different peoples. Representations of infernal creatures - tempters, pests, agents of diseases - play an important role in society. With their help, many disasters and cataclysms are explained - from personal to global. Demonology is developing on all the "floors" culture - from a scientific theology and books to folklore, from medieval miniature to modern advertising and computer games. What ideas about harmful and dangerous spirits exist in different communities? What role do demonological beliefs play in a particular historical era? Many famous specialists - historians, philologists and folklorists, whose articles are included in the first release of the almanac, try to answer these questions.
