The North Renaissance is not so much a variation of a certain process for Europe as an independent, deeply peculiar phenomenon. German and Dutch artists Jan van Eike, Jerome Bosch, Albrecht Dürer, Peter Bruegel Senior and Matthias Grunewald were not limited to copying of individual forms of Italian painting, but embodied their own original vision, imbued with mystical attitude and symbolism. The religious is intertwined with everyday life, God manifests itself in the harmony of nature, biblical plots penetrate into earthly life and is reflected in a desperate search for truth, anxious forebodings, quiet poetry of everyday life in all its details - and disgrace, the meaninglessness of life devoid of spiritual principle.
