The monograph by V. T. Pashuto, published in 1968, was and remains the only difficulty that generalizes the diverse political ties of the Old Russian state with the countries of the Northern, Western and Southern Europe, the front East and the Caucasus. In it, for the first time, ancient Russia appeared to be a large European power that actively participated in the political life of the medieval world and purposefully defended its interests. The use of the widest circle of both Old Russian and foreign sources made it possible to restore many episodes of the relationship of Russia with its neighboring and distant neighbors, but first of all, to distinguish the formation and evolution of the foreign policy of Russia as a whole system. The book, of course, will be of interest both for historians of ancient Russia and mediaists, and for students, teachers of history and all those interested in the past of our country.
