The collection is based on the materials of scientific conferences held by the Department of the History of Culture of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2008 and 2009. In the focus of this interdisciplinary study based on the wide material of Russian culture and the culture of the Slavic peoples - two central concepts of everyday life, around which a system of value orientations of a person is built in different periods of his life and in various cultural strata. The book analyzes the semiotic nature of food and clothing in the context of the Slavic tradition, as well as the mechanisms of social, gender and national identification. Analysis of the functioning of food and clothing motives in literature and art in the range from the Middle Ages to postmodernism allows us to consider the concepts through the prism of the poetics of culture, reflecting the specific picture of the region of the region. Along with the participation of venerable Russian scientists, young specialists, as well as well -known foreign Slavists, took part in the collection. The book is intended for folklorists, historians, literary critics, culturalists and everyone who is interested in the problems of Slavic culture
