The publication is the first publication of the manuscript “Description of the uniform and weapons of the lower ranks of the Russian army’s troops”, compiled in 1843 and currently stored in the archive of the Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineering and Communications forces.
The manuscript provides detailed descriptions of objects of uniform, equipment and weapons of the reign of Emperor Nicholas I with the sizes of the elements and features of the cut of things. Many examples of these objects were introduced back in the reign of Alexander I, in them the soldiers of the Russian Imperial Army have made a long way from defeat at Austerlitz to the capture of Paris. The value of the information given lies in the fact that soon many of these samples were canceled and no longer fell into detailed arches of the descriptions compiled under Alexander II and subsequently.
The text of the manuscript is structurally divided into six categories, it contains pencil corrections and additions of the compilers, the decoding of which is also given.
As an addition, all those illustrations for this description are published, which are currently identified in the archives: these are color drawings for the 5th category (“Weapons with belonging and ammonium things”), as well as one sheet of set 1 -category (hats) in a lithographic monochrome version.
In addition, the appendix is given “Tables to the uniforms, banners and standards of the Imperial Russian Army with the indication of the time of the establishment of regiments and other insignia”, made in 1851–1853. And now stored in the state Hermitage. Thus, this publication is introduced into scientific circulation two unique little -known sources relating to the history of the Russian army of the era of Nicholas I.
The publication will be useful for all lovers of Russian military history of the first half of the 19th century, museum workers, theater and cinema and participants in the movement military-historical reconstruction.
