Yuri Mikhailovich Lotman is a world -famous scientist, philologist and culturologist, whose works are translated into all major European languages. His creative heritage is extremely extensive and has about eight hundred scientific and popular science articles and books. He was destined to become the head of a whole scientific school, which developed new methods of analyzing a literary text, alien to the official Soviet literary criticism. Like many outstanding scientists, Yu.M. It was difficult for Lotman to remain within the framework of one scientific discipline: his research was devoted not only to the literature of the XVIII and XIX centuries, but also by the history of Russian social thought, the theory of art, and cultural studies. In the late 1980s, he gave a lecture on television about the life and traditions of the Russian nobility: these television programs collected millions of spectators from the screens. Based on the television cycle of lectures by scientists, the book “Conversations of Russian Culture” was created. It immerses the reader in the era of the 18th - early 19th centuries, which is represented through the realities of everyday life: a habit of ranks, home education, a high -society ball, a duel, a card game, etc. Due to the variety of documentary sources attracted, the breadth of generalizations and the availability of presentation is one of the most important research On the history of Russian noble culture, it is still popular not only among specialists, but also with a wide reader audience
