Elena Yakovlevna Danko (1897/1898-1942) was an artist at the legendary Petrograd (then - Leningrad) porcelain factory. And also - the actor -coalist and the author of plays for the puppet theater. And finally (and maybe, first of all) - a writer and a poet. In 1925 S.Ya. Marshak (the former to everything is also an outstanding editor who brought B. Zhitkov, V. Bianchi, E. Schwartz) to Elena Danko to write a book for children that she warmly loves and thoroughly knows about porcelain and about the puppet theater. So, after several small books for very young readers, in 1929 I saw the Light "Chinese Secret" (two years later, in 1931, the story of the puppet theater was also printed - "Wooden Actors") The book was repeatedly reprinted, the "secret" was overgrown with new chapters - these were the political realities of that time. This continued after the death of the author - Elena Yakovlevna died from the consequences of blockade hunger in the winter of 1942.
