This is a book about letters - mainly about the Cyrillic (however, in the course of business you have to recall the Greco -Roman roots of our alphabet) The author talks about why our writing signs are not as beautiful as their Latin relatives, and what a designer can do (not a professional font) Along the way - and very briefly - it tells about the history of European systems of writing.
The main part of the book is dedicated to the literal - alphabetic - analysis of the Russian alphabet and all that can and should not be done by the designer or font, when creating letters. It will be about the form of signs, connections between them, graphic rhymes. The author offers his frame system for the signs of the Cyrillic alphabet. Separately, additional and decorative elements are considered, proposals for their systematization are expressed. The author attaches great importance to the modern process of the "Latinization" of the Cyrillic alphabet, the active penetration of new elements of Latin writing into the Russian graphics.
A separate section is devoted to computer fonts, formats and tools that the developer can use. The book is addressed to well -prepared professional designers familiar with vector graphics programs
