This book is an introduction to the historical study of art. It is built on large problematic topics, and not according to traditional chronological and geographical principles. All topics are related to the development of art at different stages of human history and on different continents. The book presents various angles that can and should be considered, describe and analyze specific arts of art and culture, shows what questions to ask, where and how to look for answers. The studied topics are illustrated by numerous works of the art of the East and West, from antiquity to the present day. These are paintings, engravings, sculptures, architectural structures of famous masters - Leonardo, Rubens, Borrini, Van Gogh, Roden, Picasso, Pollock, Gabo. But the monuments are also considered little studied and not familiar to the wide reader. All of them are analyzed using modern methods of science of art and culture.
