Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky's novel (1821-1881) "Crime and Punishment" became a turning point in the fate of the writer and Russian literature. In this work, the author's creative principle, called fantastic realism, was fully manifested. Behind the details of the criminal story and psychological narrative are hidden ideas about the destiny of a person and the possibility of their correction, restoration for a new life. The complexity of the plot and characters of the novel was felt and embodied in his illustrations by Yuri Solomonovich Gershkovich. He created several cycles of drawings for the texts of Fyodor Dostoevsky. "Crime and Punishment" is illustrated with thirty-three images. The brokenness of the characters, their suffering, the fall into the abyss, the discovery of new perspectives, and the St. Petersburg setting are all reflected in the stunning illustrations, which are themselves a work of art.
