The domestic history of the ancient Russian state is illuminated by the end of the XX century. The main stages of the development of Russian society in the context of the global historical process are considered, both general patterns and features of the historical path and nature of the Russian civilization, its unique place and contribution to world social development. The presentation of the material uses a system analysis, a combination of civilization and formation approaches at the modern level of historical knowledge.
