One of the most well-known books about Cossacks in Russia before the revolution was written by the author of many instructions for the training of ordinary and non-commissioned officers, military writer and educator Konstantin Abaza. The book was printed twice at the end of the 19th century and was not reprinted in the USSR. Today we present it to the modern reader. You will find stories about the emergence of Cossacks in the Don region, about the glorious pages of military Cossack campaigns, descriptions of Cossack life, biographies of the most prominent representatives of Cossack atamans, leaders of uprisings, and heroes who glorified the Cossacks of the Don, Ural, Kuban, and Terek regions. The history of Russia is largely defined by the Cossacks. Without this special force on the outskirts of the Moscow Tsardom, neither Siberia, nor the Far East, nor the Caucasus, nor the Black Sea region, nor the Caspian lands would have become part of Russia. The book includes illustrations from the 2nd edition of 1899 and drawings by N.S. Samokish.
