Resisting the conceptualist hollowing out of the sensual, practicing what Susan Sontag called — in contrast to interpretation — the eroticism of art, Kostyleva's texts at the same time create situations of extreme conditions, explicating the hierarchical nature of any discourse, the problems of women's socialization, and the violence of writing over the poet. Elena Kostyleva is the author of the books "Easily Obtained" (Colonna Publications, 2000), "Lydia" (Colonna Publications, 2009), "Day" (Order of Words, 2019). Poems, articles, and reviews were published in the magazines "Babylon", "Mitin Journal", "New Literary Review", "Session", "Logos", in dozens of popular publications. The books were shortlisted for the All-Russian "Debut" Prize (2000) and the Andrey Bely Prize (2009). E. Kostyleva's poems have been translated into English, French, Italian, Greek, Chinese languages, and included in several anthologies. Lives in Saint Petersburg.
