Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller are the most significant figures in German and world literature, poetry, and the philosophy of art. The close friendship and creative collaboration between Goethe and Schiller began in 1794 after a meeting of the union of naturalists in Jena, and lasted for 10 years until Schiller's death in 1805. The correspondence between Goethe and Schiller is a unique document of the era, containing debates between the great thinkers on concepts of aesthetics, justice, social organization, and still relevant phenomena in art and social life. It is not only profound thoughts on the fate of European culture, but also lively communication between like-minded individuals. The friends discuss the publication of almanacs, new books, and theatrical productions, family difficulties, scandals in universities, share thoughts on their recently written works, which later became classics of world literature. In Russian, it is being published for the first time since the 1980s with comments from the renowned art historian and critic Igor Babanov. The publication is in three volumes. Volume 2 covers the most fruitful period of Goethe and Schiller's joint creativity in 1797-1798.
