'Tough Route. Chronicle of the Times of Personality Cult' is a book of memoirs by Evgenia Ginzburg, an outstanding example of memoiristic camp prose. Being an "ordinary communist," she worked as a correspondent for the newspaper 'Red Tataria' and taught party history. In 1937, she was repressed, and the former eyewitness of the Great Terror became its victim. In three parts of the autobiographical novel, eighteen years of the author's life are captured: ten years she spent in prisons and camps, eight in "indefinite" exile. Evgenia Ginzburg fought "to preserve her life," "tried to remember everything in the hope of telling about it." She told her story - after Stalin's death and her rehabilitation. Her 'chronicle' became one of the main texts of reflections on the Soviet 'inconvenient' past. Understanding people, seeing the reasons for the absurdity and injustice happening, understanding the motivations of everyone who met her on her 'tough route' is the author's most important task. The edition is illustrated with photographs from the family archive, as well as materials from the collection of the Museum of the History of the Gulag.
