In ancient times, everyone wrote about food. Food is present in historical opuses, in the works of philosophers and politicians, myths, dramatic and poetic works are filled with it, private correspondence does not do without it, not to mention culinary books. Scenes of feasts, cooking, just images of dishes are filled with mosaics, frescoes, painted dishes. In a sense, all this even complicates the task of the one who writes about the food of the Greeks and the Romans, since the most important and reliable one needs to choose the information in the sea. But Anna Pavlovskaya brilliantly copes with this task. The deepest erudition and a non -trivial approach allow it in its own way - through the prism of taste addictions of antiquity - to look at the cultural evolution of man. And at the same time, to tell the reader a lot of stories about the art that has developed in the ancient era, which was very different - ascetic and abundant, useful and harmful, artistic, sophisticated, perverted - but never boring
