In this fascinating book from the culinary historian Annie Gray, the tradition of Downton Abbey is presented in more than 100 recipes. These are recipes for dishes that demonstrate the customs of the Crowley family, as well as typical for the British aristocracy and servants at the beginning of the 20th century. The book consists of two parts: luxurious dishes above and simple meals below. Some of the recipes are adapted for the present, and some are left in its original form in which they were mentioned or recreated on the screen. Annie Gray also gives rich and exciting information about the background of dishes that were popular between 1912 and 1926, it was then that the actions of the “Downton Abbey” are unfolding - a period of colossal changes both in society and in cooking.
The book is supplemented by the preface by Gareth Nim, the executive producer of the Downton Abbey, many photographs and personnel from the series, and also includes a special section on the conduct of dinners in the downton style. A bright context for recipes are notes on the etiquette and customs of that time, quotes of characters and scenes describing when certain dishes appear. Recipes are grouped by eating time on the occasion: breakfast, lunch and dinner above, afternoon tea and parties in the garden, picnics, jumps and hunting, holidays and lunch and dinner below.
With the help of the book, you can recreate the authenticity of the Downton Abbey in your kitchen and transfer to the majestic house of Crowley"s family
