Yuri Mikhailovich Lotman is a world-famous scientist, a philologist and cultural scientist, whose works are translated into all major European languages. His creative heritage is extremely extensive and has about eight hundred scientific and popular science articles and books. Like many outstanding scientists, Yu.M.lotman was difficult to remain within the framework of one scientific discipline: its research was devoted not only to the literature of the XVIII and XIX centuries, but also the history of Russian public thought, the theory of art, cultural studies. In the late 1980s, he read on television a lecture on the life and traditions of the Russian nobility: these television shows collected millions of viewers from the screens.
