Confucius was an ancient Chinese philosopher whose philosophical teachings, known as "Confucianism," became widely spread in East Asia and China itself. An important text of his teachings is the "Lun Yu" ("The Analects"), recorded by Confucius' disciples and containing observations and sayings of the wise philosopher. "The Analects," along with texts like "The Book of Rites" and "The Art of War," is a literary and cultural monument of Ancient China. The themes addressed in "The Analects" are extensive and touch upon many aspects of life. It is in this text that the famous ethical principle appears: "Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself."
