The collection includes two books - "Confessions of Blessed Augustine, Bishop of Hippo" and the biography of Blessed Monica titled "Blessed Monica. Mother of Blessed Augustine." "Confessions" is considered the first example of autobiography in European literature. It covers a part of the life journey of Blessed Augustine (33 years out of the approximately 40 he had lived by the time of writing) and contains an account of his spiritual quest. Blessed Monica is revered as the patron saint of mothers. Her constant prayers for her son, Blessed Augustine, saved him from spiritual ruin. Over time, he became one of the greatest fathers of the Church and gratefully acknowledged that he owed his conversion to Christianity to his mother's prayers.
