Confession of an "inferior" person is perhaps the most famous work by Dazai Osamu, one of the greatest Japanese writers of modern times, written in the genre of "watakushi-shosetsu" ("autobiographical novel"). It is considered that this text is a kind of autobiography of the writer, in which he narrates not about the vicissitudes of his life path, but about the tormenting wanderings of his ego. The epithet "inferior" is not in vain put in quotation marks. The spiritual vivisection to which the main character of the story subjects himself unexpectedly reveals both the falsehood of the surrounding society and the incomprehensible ability of "superior" people to lie without fearing the consequences for an "inferior" person. The naive certainty of the hero in his inferiority becomes less and less convincing to the reader as they progress through the reading.
