Fundamental course on the architecture and structure of modern computer systems. The main goal of this book is to teach the basic principles of construction and operation of modern computing machines and systems, instill skills in their analysis and application. The textbook covers all aspects necessary for understanding the organization and architecture of modern computing machines and systems: basic characteristics, areas of application of computers of different classes, functional and structural organization of the processor, memory management, basic stages of instruction execution, interrupts, input-output systems, peripheral devices, architectural features of organizing different classes of computers, parallel systems, multi-machine and multiprocessor computing systems. The book is based on many years of university teaching experience in relevant disciplines. The fourth edition of the textbook has been completely updated, substantially revised, and the content of many chapters has been expanded. A new chapter has been added dedicated to the most popular and evolving topic - cloud and fog computing. The goal of the changes in the new edition is to reflect innovations in computer technology (cloud computing, data centers, multicore systems) and make the material presentation simpler and more understandable. Approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation as a textbook for students of higher educational institutions studying in the field of "Computer Science and Computer Engineering".
