The monograph by the professor of the Department of Choreographic Art of St. Petersburg State University, Doctor of Art, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation D. N. Katysheva is devoted to the development of the artistic tradition of spiritual dance in the Russian ballet theater. The beginning of this tradition was outlined by the choreographers of the Pushkin era, continued M. I. Petip with his reformal activity, which laid the foundation of classical dance, and then the galaxy of domestic choreographers and artists of the XX -XXI centuries. They supported and enriched the best traditions, embodying a person’s spiritual life in a symphonic dance, combining the artistic integrity of choreographic action with psychologically motivated images, developing one of the most difficult forms of dance - a choreographic monologue.
