The "Golden Age" of the Russian ballet is known by the names of Anna Pavlova, Matilda Kshesinskaya, Vaclav Nizhinsky and Marius Petipa. But besides them, other composers, choreographers, and dancers, whose fates ended in the shadow of oblivion, took part in the creation of the famous performances.
This book is devoted to the life and work of one of such hidden figures - Riccardo Drigo (1846-1930) The Italian composer and conductor, who for more than forty years served as a capeter in the imperial theaters of St. Petersburg, he left a noticeable mark in the history of the Russian ballet. There is little is known about the author of the music of Harlequinada, "Awakening of Flora" and "Talisman": the composer did not conduct diary entries, and in a few preserved letters he was quite concise and restrained. The author of this book makes an attempt, collecting together the facts and evidence of the life of R. Drigo, to reconstruct his biography, and also explores the musical-stylistic features of several composer ballets.
The book is addressed to everyone who is interested in the history of ballet and music in Russia at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries
