V. Ya. Svetlov - one of the most authoritative Russian ballet critics. He wrote many ballet articles and reviews, historical research, creative portraits of artists and choreographers. He took part in the organization of Russian seasons in Paris in 1909 since 1917 in exile, lived and died in Paris. The book "Modern Ballet" reflects the state of Russian ballet during the period of brilliant Russian seasons in Paris. This work has become a real ballet encyclopedia. It reflects all the most significant phenomena of ballet life. L. S. Bakst took part in the first edition of this book. Having completed the decorative design of the publication, Bakst at the same time became its art editor.
