The lexical typology - the area of linguistics, which is engaged in a comparative analysis of the meanings of words in different languages - to date has achieved great success: the methods of collecting and analyzing the material have been developed, a number of semantic fields have been described. However, some methodological restrictions are still not overcome: the data collection process is very laborious, which affects either the volume and representativeness of language samples, or the degree of details of the analysis of the material.
The book suggests ways to automate different stages of lexical and typological research based on the methods of distribution semantics, cluster analysis and analysis of formal concepts. It is shown that computer methods and tools for working with vocabulary allow not only to simplify and speed up the research process, but also to identify new patterns that are usually not visible to the naked eye. Some of the proposed methods are suitable for grammatical typology.
