The book "Introduction to the Information Search" is the first textbook in which, along with the classic search, web Pois is considered, as well as the classification and clustering of texts. The textbook is written from the point of view of computer science and contains a modern presentation of all aspects of designing and implementing systems for collecting, indexing and searching for documents, methods for evaluating such systems, as well as the introduction of machine learning in the collections of texts.
Despite the fact that "Introduction to the Information Search" is conceived as an introductory information on information search, it will be interesting to researchers and professionals. A complete set of slides for lectures and exercises accompanying the book is available on the web network.
The preface of the authors of the book for the Russian publication
We are pleased to write a brief preface to the Russian publication of the book Introduction to Information Retrieval. Since the original edition was published in 2008, the importance of searching for text and other unstructured information sources to the current moment has increased even more. This search is important both as a technical task, and as the main part of the social and business interaction of people in the modern information world.
The past period is an exciting period of the wide distribution of blogs, microblogs and social networks, as well as the wider use of tools using machine learning methods and a deeper interpretation of texts. In particular, in Russia it was a delightful and probably turning time of the appearance of successful companies involved in the Web Poisian, optical recognition of symbols and automatic processing of the text. In addition, over the past time, organizational and academic activities have intensified. We would like to note, in particular, the Romip seminar, mentioned in Chapter 8, which organized a forum on assessing information search methods in Russian -speaking sources (http://romip.ru/), similar to the TREC conferences, as well as a recently organized Russian summer school for information search. We hope that the publication of this book will contribute to the further development of the methods of information and web prisk in the Russian-speaking world.
