Historical computer science. The evolution of the interdisciplinary direction

The book is a study of the process of formation and development of historical computer science as an interdisciplinary direction in historical science, which was formed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In the wave of informatization of society, including in the field of science and education. Historical computer science is tested by analytical methods and computer technologies in concrete historical research. The formation of historical computer science begins in the era of the microcomputer revolution with the appeal of historians to the creation of databases based on information of historical sources, and at present this direction includes such modern methods and technologies as GIS, zo-modification, network and content analysis, while continuing the traditions the application of statistical methods and computer modeling of historical processes laid down in the 1960s-the 1980s. within the framework of quantitative history. In the monograph, for the first time, the evolution of historical informatics is considered in historical and comprehensive terms, based on the study of both foreign and domestic historiography using a set of traditional historiographic and scientific methods. The results obtained demonstrate similarities in the development of “historical community” in the West and historical computer science in Russia to the “bifurcation point” in the mid-2000s. And their cardinal difference in the last decade, marked by the transformation of “historical computer” into “digital history”. The author pays particular attention to factors that determined the specifics of the domestic model of historical computer science, the main lines of its development, centers and schools.
