The textbook is designed to study the basics of design and implementation of relational databases. The fundamental concepts and principles of organizing data models "Essence - Communication" and a relational data model, including the basic characteristics of structural components, manipulation and holistic parts using elements of the theory of sets, relational algebra and relational calculus are considered in sufficient detail. The main stages of the creation and use of the database system are described: determination of semantic dependencies at different levels of abstraction, design, taking into account the principles of normalization, implementation and support using the declarative language. Methods of access to data based on tree, hash and bit structures are presented in detail.
The main operations of the SQL request optimizer are described, as well as the methodology for interpreting the SQL request plan. Each section is accompanied by practical examples and issues for an independent assessment of the acquired material.
