The textbook discusses and analyzes: databases and DBMSs, data and computers, the concept of databases, the architecture of the DBMS, the infological, datalog and physical model of data, the types of data downtime, the presentation of the data using the "Essence - Communication", the “Essence - Diagram - Communication ", data integrity. A review of the notations used in the construction of the “essence - communication” diagrams is given. Details are discussed in detail: relational databases, operations with tables of relational databases, the rules for generating relational relations from the model "essence - communication. The sections: accelerated access to data, SQL language, physical organization of DBMSs, "client-server" architecture, distributed data processing and the structure of the database server. The textbook also formulates the conceptual foundations of the concept of "knowledge", outlines the concepts and definitions of knowledge, bases of knowledge, and the model of representation of knowledge. Here are given: the principles of constructing systems oriented on the analysis of data - data storage, data models used in the construction of data storage facilities. The textbook ends with the consideration of data protection issues.
