This publication in a sense is special - exactly 20 years have passed since the release of the book. 20 years is not a short time, during this time the children of our first readers have grown up and, possibly, have become interested in computer networks. And, perhaps, they will have the 6th edition of the book "Computer networks in their hands. Principles, technologies, protocols. " This book is significantly different from the one that their parents read. Much of what was interested in readers of the late 90s-for example, the rule of 4 hubs, the coordination of IP and IPX networks or a comparison of technologies of 100vg-Avenlan and FDDI-is not mentioned at all in recent editions. For 20 years, many technologies have passed a full cycle from a fashionable term and universal recognition for almost complete oblivion. Each new edition of the book, to one degree or another, reflected changes in the landscape of network technologies.
This publication is no exception - it is significantly processed, about a third of the material is a completely new information or a substantially processed presentation of topics. For example, a new part of the "wireless networks" appeared in the book, a part of the primary SDH, OTN and DWDM technologies is completely processed.
The book is translated into English, Spanish, Chinese and Portuguese.
