Paul Taffanel (1844–1908) was a French flutist, composer, and educator who influenced multiple generations of performers. In collaboration with his student and follower Philippe Gaubert (1879–1941), he created the instructional book "Complete Method for Flute Playing," which remains a crucial resource for training flute players to this day, serving as a sort of "encyclopedia of flute playing." This collection contains one of the eight sections of this work, specifically the second chapter on "Ornamentation," dedicated to practicing musical embellishments such as trills, short and long appoggiaturas, and mordents. Each technique is described and accompanied by exercises and examples from musical literature. The collection also includes a fingering chart for trills. It is intended to help students in children's music schools and college students develop the necessary motor skills for performing various musical ornaments.
