“Comparative biographies” are the biographies of the great heroes of antiquity in the presentation of the ancient Greek writer Plutarch (about 45 - okolo 127), a kind of majestic “portrait gallery” of famous Greeks and Romans. Before Plutarch, historians of Greece and Rome, composing the biography of a historical figure, sought to simply chronologically state the main events of his life. Plutarch managed to avoid the pile of incoherent stories, focusing on an understanding of the image of the thoughts and character of a person. Plutarch’s “comparative biographies” are of great importance for studying the ancient history of Greece and Rome, since many works of writers from which he gleaned the information did not reach us, and his works are the only information about many historical events, their participants and witnesses
