Insurance salesman George Bowling decides to take a day off work to get a new set of teeth after winning at the races. He expects life to be great, but finds himself stuck in a routine - overweight, middle-aged, with a wife and children in the suburbs - and even forgot to wash the soap off his neck that morning.
In an attempt to revive memories of his childhood, George revisits the village where he grew up, only to be surprised by what he finds there.
Written on the brink of World War II, "Coming Up For Air" is a humorous and insightful portrayal of the culture of interwar Britain - a world on the verge of significant change.
