“Arab of the future” is a series of autobiographical comics of the French artist and director Riad Sattuf about his childhood, which took place in Libya, Syria and France.
The second volume covers the first year of studying six -year -old Riad in Syria. He learns to read and write in Arabic, gets acquainted with new relatives and, for the sake of father, is trying to become a real Syrian. A monotonous rural life and harsh school everyday life in Ter-Maalech, illegal purchases in Homs, awkward dinners in the house of the general"s greatness of the general, an exhausting journey through ancient Palmyra-Riad offers to plunge into the surrealistic daily everyday life of the Sattuf family in the country of the Hafez al-Asada.
The Arab of the Future Arab series was translated into more than 20 languages, awarded the RTL literary prize, the Los Angeles Times Books Prize and Prix BD Stas / Ville de Saint-Etienne, as well as the main prize of the international comic book festival in the Angular.
