Valentin Kataev had an amazing ability to find a common language with people of different ages. In his books, he addressed adults, teenagers, and children alike. In his fairy tales, he convincingly and simply talked to younger schoolchildren about very complex things: responsibility, hard work, friendship. They also touched upon family values. Family was very important to Valentin Kataev, as he lost his mother when he was very young.
