The book includes the most famous tales of the animal peoples of Dagestan: Avartsev, Agouls, Dargins, Kumykov, Laks, Lezgin, Nogais, Rutulov, Tabasaranians and Tats. The samples of both the fairy tales about animals and the texts that have preserved the mythological sources of the genre or acquired features of parables, jokes, etc. have been selected. The book presents not only the plot widely known in world folklore, but also their interesting options, versions, as well as peculiar texts, characteristic only for Dagestan.
