Sometimes life radically changes in seconds - and no longer returns to the previous direction. This happened with Yana-Bertha, when the lessons at school were suddenly canceled, and the students were ordered to be urgently evacuated. At the nuclear power plant in Grafenrainfeld - several tens of kilometers from the native slice and very close to Schweinfurt, where the parents left! -An accident happened, and a radioactive cloud will be here in a couple of hours. Yanna-Berta and the younger brother street rush to bicycles and rush away from the city-like hundreds of other families. Having gone through vanity and panic, through tragic accidents and situations of personal choice, through hospitals and other people"s houses, Yanna-Berta will return to his homeland with a completely different person-matured and ready to defend his right to life.
“Most of all, I wanted to illustrate the possible consequences of the incident on the reactor and warn the readers about them,” Gudrun Pausning explained why she decided to write the story “Cloud”. To sit down at the table and create this text forced it from Chernobyl in 1986-and the book was released in Germany a year after the disaster. Later, it was translated into English and other languages, becoming genuine teenage classics, and in 2006 it was filmed: Gregor Schnitzler’s picture “Cloud” of the jury recognized the best film for the youth at the Festival in Bavaria.
The story told by the German writer is the truth and the fiction of one thing temporarily. No matter how frightening the described events may look, they can become a reality. The intolerance of people who escaped disaster can be a reality to the victims, and the irresponsibility of the authorities has already become: discussing the benefits of nuclear power plants, politicians and industrialists are silent about the risks with which the atomic energy is associated. The novel-prelimination “Cloud” is designed for adolescents, but even adult readers touch the courage and frankness of the author
