Wolfgang Hölzel describes the famous North American clippers of the mid-19th century. The book includes the history of their development, various types of these sailing ships, and theoretical questions of clipper shipbuilding. Information about a large number of clippers is presented - their sizes, types, structural features, usage, and most important voyages. Based on information about the duration of voyages and speed in transit, the author draws conclusions for his reconstructions. A separate section tells about the famous races of tea clippers.
The drawings by Wolfgang Hölzel of the clippers 'Sovereign of the Seas', 'Ann McKim', a Baltimore clipper, and the topsail schooner 'Vaquero' will allow ship modelers to build models close to the originals.
The book is addressed to a wide range of readers: from ship modelers to those interested in history and who want to draw their own conclusions from past events.
