Alister Crowley (1875-1947), known to most readers as a magician and religious philosopher, is also the author of many fascinating stories, some of which are presented in a real collection. In some stories there are autobiographical elements related to Crowley"s childhood, to his climbing exercises and to unsuccessful first marriage. Others are an autobiographical satire or allegory of the spiritual plan. He sees himself either Buddha, then an Egyptian priest, then a Chinese Taoist teacher. The advantage of Alister Crowley"s stories is not exhausted by the fact that they help to better understand the worldview and the complex inner world of this bright and ambiguous person, his relationship with others. This exciting reading is also an excellent example of British artistic prose of the beginning of the 20th century
