Leonsk is a city on the Volga, not far from Astrakhan. It arose in the 18th century, the Germans arrived there, and then Italians from Venice, aristocrats with large families. The Venetians brought with them special animals, which became a symbol of the city - and its inner freedom. The Leonchanes managed to defend their free principles even under the Soviet regime. But in our time, when the vertical of power requires subordination and penetrates everywhere, the chances of withstanding the Leonchan became much less. The narrative has been conducted on behalf of the old German who lived in Leonsk for the past twenty years. He has a light syllable, the tragedy of the city is described emotionally, but without hysteria and exaggeration. This is the first novel of the famous musical critic, translator and poet Alexei Parina
